New Stuff.

Hello there,

yesterday I went to the kringloper, a secondhand store. I bought some new movies:

Later that day, I grabbed my bike and cycled to Matthijs. It was all very relaxed, we listened to some music and checked out awesome videos, which I will post in my next item. Anyway, not far from Matthijs' place we found some old garbage, including 2 old boxes and a small white table. I took the boxes home that night, and came back for the table today. check them out:

3 random words.

 Gedankenexperiment

Definition:

an experiment carried out in thought only

About the word:

Gedanken means "thoughts" in German. The term was popularized by Albert Einstein, who applied gedankenexperiment to his work conceptualizing the theory of relativity.

 Triskaidekaphobia

Definition:

fear of the number 13

About the word:

Every Friday the 13th, lookups on triskaidekaphobia spike on Merriam-Webster.com.
The word comes from the Greek word for thirteen and the New Latin word "phobia."
The origin of this fear is murky. Some trace it to ancient Hindu beliefs, others to Norse mythology, and still others to the Last Supper, after which Jesus was betrayed by one of the thirteen people present. Interestingly enough, known mention of the fear of thirteen in print dates back only to the late 1800s.

Tintinnabulation

Definition:

the ringing or sounding of bells

About the word:

This word's Latin source, tintinnabulum, means "bell" and evokes the sound of one.
The word was popularized in the mid 1800s by Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Bells": "Keeping time, time, time, / In a sort of Runic rhyme, / To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells / from the bells, bells, bells, bells, / Bells, bells, bells...."

Chili Peppers recording new tracks

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are halfway through recording a new album.

The ‘Under The Bridge’ group have been in the studio with producer Rick Rubin and reportedly started enough tracks to fill a whole album, according to the band’s drummer Chad Smith.

He told website Musicradar.com: “We're probably halfway through the record. I think we've tracked about 20 songs already, and there's a few more left to do. Then we'll whittle them down to make the best record.

“We always cut a lot of songs and see which ones rise and which ones fall - that's just how we like to work.”

He also confirmed the album would not be a double, like the group’s last, ‘Stadium Arcadium’, which came out in 2006.

Chad - who is joined in the band by singer Anthony Keidis, bassist Flea and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer - also added he’d like for the band to have their new album out in time for the summer months of next year.

He added: “We're definitely hoping to have it out by next summer. It's been a long time in coming.”

p.s. Is Chad Smith Will Farrell?

New Major Lazer Album!

Major Lazer are recording with the likes of Vampire Weekend, Lee Perry, Lykke Li, Santigold and more for their new album.

The duo, Diplo and Switch, are currently working on an LP in Jamaica and say the record will contain a mix of guest appearances from reggae and indie musicians.

Diplo told Interviewmagazine.com that they are halfway through the record now.

"I'd like to have it done by the end of the year and get it out for 2011," he explained. "It's a pretty random selection – top-form dancehall guests; Vybz Kartel, Bugle, Timberlee. Also, Vampire Weekend, Lykke Li and Santigold."

He added: "Then we have some classic fellas like Lee Perry and Junior Murvin. It's like reggae is the vehicle, but we really live in this Major Lazer post-apocalypse world where all these artists don't seem strange together."

Flight of the Conchords on the Simpsons.

They made it, top of the world!
Flight of the Conchords duo Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement have cemented their star status with an appearance on The Simpsons.
The comedy pair were immortalised as yellow cartoon versions of themselves in the premiere episode of season 22 of the famous show, which screened in the United States in the last few hours.

This is heavy.

Oh yeah. This is looking good, Michael J. Fox didn't change at all! Wish they would make another one.
Would be awesome, because I saw Piranha 3D( It's so bad it's good) the other day, and 'doc' played a role, didn't change either.

By the way, check out some great quotes from the movie:

[in the past, Marty observes his dad's incompetence]
Marty McFly: Jesus, George, it was a wonder I was even born.

Dr. Emmett Brown: If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit.

Marty McFly: This is heavy.

Marty McFly: Wait a minute, Doc, are you trying to tell me that my mother has got the hots for me?
Dr. Emmett Brown: Precisely.
Marty McFly: Whoa, this is heavy.
Dr. Emmett Brown: There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?

George McFly: Do you really think I oughta swear?
Marty McFly: Yes, definitely. Goddamn it George, swear.

Biff Tannen: What are you looking at butthead?
[last lines]
Marty McFly: Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88.
Dr. Emmett Brown: Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

The Walking Dead.

The last 2 days I've been reading this (brilliant) comic book series 'The Walking Dead.' It's so awesome. Check out this crazy artwork:

Why you should read it:
1. ZOMBIES!
2.  It is realistic, like 28 days later.
3. The artwork is B-E-A-U-tiful( If you like Sin City, read it!)
4. Not a kiddy comic.

Have fun!

Wake up, Your Highness

Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green showed some footage of his next film, Your Highness, at New York Comic Con yesterday, and audiences confirmed it's a stoner comedy: "It looks to be something like The Princess Bride after a couple of harsh tokes ... about a pair of knights who are far more into recreational drug use than defending the realm," Entertainment Weekly reports.

James Franco and Danny McBride star in the film, which Green says was a pet project he didn't think could ever necessarily happen: "On the set of a decidedly more serious movie, All the Real Girls, which he made with McBride in 2003 ... they said that if the two of them ever made it big they would somehow convince a studio to make this movie. Seven years later, voila."

(by Mike Vilensky )

This is gonna be epic. ( I hope it's gonna be Pineapple Express meets Army of Darkness!)

oh, and:

Natalie Portman plays the love interest of Danny mcBride. Whattefurniture?

Solomon Burke is Dead.

He died at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, on or immediately after a flight from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, where he had been due to perform with De Dijk on October 12.
The cause of death was not immediately clear. Apparently, after having had a heart attack on the plane, he could not be resuscitated.

Burke combined his singing with the role of preacher and patriarch of a huge family of 21 children, 90 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

"Loving people," he said at a recent performance in London, "is what I do."

One love, Rest in Peace

If you want to see a movie

Go see this one:

Shot in black and white on a hand-held 35 mm DXL Supreme MP, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench is a period piece without a period, a beautiful glimpse into a world without beauty, a heart-rending portrayal of the heartless. The film swings (no pun intended :)!!) between tortured silences and undistilled brassy mirth, with a fantastic debut performance from trumpeter and lead man Jason Palmer.

Chazelle's entrance onto the scene is nothing short of momentous, an omen of good things to come in a struggling industry. He brings art and subtlety back to a genre that has recent been diluted by big Oscar grabs (Chicago, Dreamgirls, Cadillac Records) and will be sure to make an impression at Tribeca.

Tonite I wish to party, so here is some party music:

Duck Sauce with the song 'Barbra Streisand.' I love this song, it is stuck in my head for days now. Oh, and you can spot Kanye 'Gayfish' West, the singer from Vampire Weekend and many more in the video.

Check this awesome comment on their video:

"I like the part where they say 'Barbra Streisand"

Next are the Wombats with their new single Tokyo:

I really loved their first record, good memories. ( Let's dance to Joy Division, anyone?)

and we finish with a Paul Kalkbrenner song, who I will see live the 24th of october:

Last Nite.

This is what I did yesterday:

127 Hours.

127 hours? 127 hours of what? gaming? eating pizzas? nah...It's the name of Danny Boyle's newest movie.Danny who? Danny Boyle, the director of The Beach, Slumdog Millionare, 28 days later and Trainspotting. He's kinda my favourite director, I love every movie he has ever made, and now he's making this new movie with James 'Pineapple Express' Franco. Ka-Schwing!

Then there is Où Est Le Swimming Pool. They are an English synthpop group from London.
Charles Haddon, the lead singer of the band, died after a performance at Pukkelpop, Belgium. He is believed to have committed suicide by jumping from a telecommunications mast in the backstage artists' parking area. Masturdating: Urban Word of the Day‏

This means going out alone. I.e. seeing a movie by yourself, going to a restaurant alone.

"Dude I saw Pineapple Express twice by myself. I'm addicted to chronic masturdating"

Speaking of Pineapple Express, there will be somekinda spiritual successor: Your Highness.

This movie is directed by the same guy who gave you Pineapple Express. It is set in...ah fuck,  just read this:

Thadeous (Danny McBride) is a lazy, arrogant prince whose brother, Fabious (James Franco), must go on an epic quest in order to save their father's kingdom. Natalie Portman plays a warrior princess who is also the lazy prince's love interest.[4] Zooey Deschanel plays Belladonna, Fabious' virginal bride.[5] Justin Theroux plays Leezar, the evil wizard who kidnaps Belladonna. Michael Clarke Duncan plays the Giant troll.

Sound Epic, Right?

Go Ahead.

A perfect song to wake up to:

This is the Band Rilo Kiley, whose frontmen are all former childstars. But don't let that fool you, I think they make great music, with great lyrics:

if you want to find yourself by travelling out west
or if you want to find somebody else that's better
go ahead

if you want to hold on to the first girl that you meet
or if you want to settle down and plant roses at my feet
go ahead

if you want to have your cake and eat it too
and if you want to have other people watch you while you eat it
go ahead.

if you want to have your cake and eat it too
and if you want to have other people watch you while you eat it
go ahead

Tarantino's Editor is Dead.

Some really sad news to wake up with: Sally Menke, Quentin Tarantino's editor for all of his movies (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, the Kill Bill double feature, DeathProof and Inglourious Basterds) passed away yesterday.
this is an video about Sally, skip to 2:10!

The LA Times reports the 56 year-old editor was found dead in the Beachwood Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles presumably succumbing to the record heat that struck the city yesterday.
Menke had gone jogging in the morning, but her friends began worrying when she hadn't returned home later in the evening. Though not confirmed it is believed the stagnant heat caused to to collapse and fall into a nearby ravine. Her body was found around 2am this morning with her dog sitting loyally at her side. She was currently hard at work on editing Michel Gondry's big screen take on The Green Hornet( with Seth Rogen!), so it's unclear who will take over her responsibilities.

Rest in Peace.

We also went to the best coffeeshop of Amsterdam, " de tweede kamer" where we found our friends Dami and Ruud. It was a great day.

Outkast- Mighty ''O''

Today I took the train from Hoevelaken( my mother's place) to Almere-Stad( my father's place). I had to wait in Hilversum for 26 minutes, so I decided to visit 't Oor, a small record store. Bone broke as I was, I knew I couldn't buy anything, but it's never a bad thing to be surrounded by records, is it?

Upon entering, I saw this sign saying '12 inches.' Man, I love 12 inches. But when I checked about 2/3 of it, I didn't see anything I loved... Fedde Le Grand was there, but I'm not really into him, so that was a no-go. I kept looking, and there it was: Outkast- Mighty ''O''.
Fuck yeah, Outkast may just be the best hiphop-thing out there, and the record was only 3 euro's! I didn't look any further, I grabbed my wallet, payed for it and went back to the station.
There, I ran into a friend of mine, Erik aka Skeerik aka 'Anja kan uw oproep niet beantwoorden' (Dutch for: Anja can't come to the phone right now.) unfortunaly, we couldn't chat long, because my train was there.

Back to the Mighty "O", it's awesome, and I'll tell you why:
1. the beat. it's easy to sing along with, and it's stuck in my head for hours now.( ho di ho di ho di do!)
2. the lyrics. "They only like my armor, and because I'm a performer, they wanna read one magizine and think they gettin' warmer, they only getting colder..."  ' nough said.
3. that insane, typical Outkast flow.

anyway, here's the song:

(I took all the photo's myself.)
( more info on the Album Idlewild by Outkast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idlewild_(OutKast_album)

friends, freaks and other folks

Hi friends, freaks and other fuckers. This is my blog. Who I am? I am Mickey. Simple, right?
anyway, I am here to show you my taste in music, movies and (way) more. This is how it will go down:
1. I will buy something, like a VHS of 'David Bowie's Serious Moonlight.' I will take a picture, a screenshot and I will watch the whole thing (twice!) After I have done that, I will review it, and share it with you guys.
2. I will stumble upon something on the internet, in the newspapers or on the streets. When I like it, and I think you will like it, I shall share it with you.
3. I ( or someone I know) will make something, a song or a drawing, whatever. When I'm happy with it, I will upload it here so you can dig it ( or not :P )
4. Whenever I experience something weird, or something random, I will share that too!
peace out.
